At Glenora Dental we have a commitment to making sure that we conserve your natural tooth structure. This starts with an emphasis on prevention in order that our patients will not need major restorative procedures. Dr. VandenBrink uses tools like an intraoral camera (a TV camera in your mouth) to diagnose and treat problems early. With this tool we are also able to reduce the need for x-ray and therefore lower the amount of radiation to our patients. When x-rays are needed we are able to use digital radiography, which reduces the amount of radiation from each x-ray by almost 90%. If we do find the need to restore you tooth, whether it's because of minor decay or as a result of the loss of major tooth structure, we use the most minimally invasive techniques. Our goal is to leave as much of your healthy tooth structure as we can and replace the lost enamel with restorative materials that are as close to the properties of your teeth as possible.
One of our other major priorities at Glenora Dental is to make your visit as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Dr. VandenBrink is constantly looking for ways to reduce his patients anxiety. The chairs that Dr. VandenBrink uses are very comfortable for our patients and allow the dentist and assistant to deliver dentistry in a more effective manner. We also have incorporated an alternate method for delivering dental anesthesia. The Wand allows us to inject anesthetic almost painlessly with a computer chip controlling the rate of delivery according to the resistance of your tissue. We also use equipment that completes procedures in fewer visits and lessens the need for impressions. For those patients that are having surgery or have a major phobia we offer conscious sedation. (Look for more information on all of the above mentioned equipment and techniques on the MODERN INNOVATIONS page).
It is important to us that we find materials to use that will be as compatible with your body as possible. With some of the amazing technological advances available we have found ways to limit the amount of metals in our dental prosthetics and complete eliminate the need for amalgam. We can be confident that all of the materials that we put in your mouth are as close to your natural tooth structure as possible.
We have reduced the amount of waste in our office with our switch to digital x-ray (including lead waste). It will reduce the use of photographic processing and therefore lower the amount of harmful chemicals as a byproduct. All of the Sterilization and cleaning solutions that we use are as environmentally friendly as possible and we don't dump any harmful chemicals or metals (amalgam) into the water supply.
Our sterilization procedures meet or exceed all standards and we are ahead
of guidelines on water line contamination, air contamination and waste disposal.
